چکیده

Chronic endothelial damage plays an important role in the development of angiopathy in diabetes mellitus (1). Since diabetic nephropathy is not determined in forty percent of patients with nonregulated type I diabetes mellitus, it is conceived that the role of hyperglycemia in angiopathy development is not very important. In addition to hyperglycemia, factors such as hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, hyperuricemia and genetics accelerate the development of angiopathy. Once diabetic nephropathy is developed, its progression

Endothelial dysfunction and pathogenesis of diabetic angiopathy.

OBJECTIVE AND METHODS To review, from the clinical perspective, the contribution of dysfunction of the vascular endothelium to the pathogenesis of diabetic micro- and macroangiopathy. RESULTS Available data indicate that endothelial dysfunction in diabetes complicated by micro- or macroalbuminuria (renal microangiopathy) is generalised. The close linkage between microalbuminuria and endotheli...

The importance of endothelin-1 for microvascular dysfunction in diabetes

Most of the late diabetic complications such as retinopathy, nephropathy, and neuropathy, have their basis in disturbed microvascular function. Structural and functional changes in the micro-circulation are present in diabetes mellitus irrespective of the organ studied, and the pathogenesis is complex. Endothelial dysfunction, characterized by an imbalance between endothelium-derived vasodilato...

Why does diabetes mellitus increase the risk of cardiovascular disease?

The main etiology for mortality and a great percentage of morbidity in patients with diabetes mellitus is atherosclerosis. The pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in diabetes is multifactorial and can be affected by metabolic and other factors. A hypothesis for the initial lesion of atherosclerosis is endothelial dysfunction, defined pragmatically as changes in the concentration of the...

مقایسه اندازه ضخامت جدار اینتیما- مدیا شریان کاروتید در دیابتی‌های تیپ 2 مبتلا به رتینوپاتی و بدون رتینوپاتی

Background: Microangiopathy and macroangiopathy frequently coexist in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Both types of the vascular complications share traditional risk factors but it is not clear whether the presence of microangiopathy, such as diabetic retinopathy, constitutes a predictor of atherosclerosis in carotid arteries in patients with the disease. In this study we looked for the associ...
